Abstract

Objective:To study the relationship between serum levels of cytokines and the treatment and prognosis of patients with liver cirrhosis.Methods:60 patients with liver cirrhosis were divided into two groups, hepatic functions of 34 patients were aggravated and 26 cases were restored or near to normal levels after oral matrine therapy for three months. serum levels of IL-6、 IL-8、 IL-10 were measured by ELISA methods in all these patients before and after therapy and 60 healthy subjects, respectily. Results:The serum levels of IL-6、 IL-8、IL-10 in patients with liver cirrhosis were significantly higher than healthy subjects. The serum levels of IL-6、IL-8 in aggravated hepatic function group after therapy were lower than that of patients with liver cirrhosis before the therapy(131.8+16.8 vs 70.3+24.8,147.3+17.9 vs 72.3+8.2, P0.01) while the serum level of IL-10 was lower than healthy subjects(20.4+3.1 vs 110.3+15.8,P0.01). in aggravated hepatic function group, serum levels of IL-6、IL-8 after therapy were no obvious different compared with before therapy(110.0+14.6 vs 131.0+16.5,126.8+12.6 vs 130.3+16.4 μ/l,P0.05),but the serum level of IL-10 was significantly higher than that before therapy ( 90.3+3.5 vs 65.4+2.5 μ/l, P0.01), in restored hepatic function group, serum levels of IL-6、IL-8 after therapy were significantly decreased(56.0+5.76 vs 129.0+13.5,68.8+2.46 vs 129.3+113.6 μ/l,P0.05), while the serum level of IL-10 was were significantly higher(278.3+28.5 vs 115.411.5, P0.01),the serum levels of HA、LN、ⅣC after therapy in patients with hepatic cirrhosis were markedly lower than that of these patients before therapy(147.3+7.82 vs 90.2+4.18,162.1+8.41 vs 67.3+5.24 and 427.1+16.2 vs 213.1+8.10 ,P0.01).Conclusion:Serum levels of cytokines may be correlated with the treatment and prognosis of patients with liver cirrhosis. they may be taken as one of markers to judge the prognosis of patients with liver cirrhosis, oximatrine may have an important inhibitant role on liver cirrhosis.
