The Study of High Ligation and Stripping of Great Saphenous Vein

Objective To evaluate the effects of high ligation and stripping of great saphenous vein. Methods Fifty-one patients with primary great saphenous varicose vein were treated with modified high ligation and stripping of great saphenous vein. Before the operation,the branches (tributaries) of interfemus and lateral femoral were cut and ligated while others remained. The great saphenous vein near the branches (tributaries) about 0.5 cm was cut by ring clamp. Transfixion and ligation were performed successively at proximal broken ends of fractured bone while stripping operation at distal broken ends of fractured bone at the beginning of great saphenous vein in internal malleolus anterior. Incision stripping was conducted in the varicose vein bolus of the leg while axotomy and ligation in the communicating branches. And adhesive bandage was used for pressure dressing post operation. Results The mean operative time is 60 min and no infection of incision wound was found during the operation. Deep vein thrombus was found in one patient,but he was cured after getting bed rest,raising the injured extremity and receiving heparin anticoagulant therapy. This patient was followed up for 2 years and no recurrence was found. Conclusions High ligation and stripping in great saphenous vein is an effective and simple treatment for primary great saphenous varicose vein,resulting in less cure time and little operative invasion.
