Abstract

The hair follicles of different types from embryonic mandibular of yak and Tibetan goats was used as the model for the study, using tissue microarray and immunohistochemical staining to investigate the morphogenesis and β-catenin expression pattern from embryonic mandibular beard and body hair follicles. It was found that beard hair follicle morphogenesis had also experienced hair placode, hair bud, hair peg and mature follicle stages, similar as the body hair follicle morphogenesis, but there was a special population distribution.β-catenin expression pattern was also similar to the body hair follicle. In the hair placode stage β-catenin was strongly expressed in the epithelial part, then in the hair bud, hair peg stage the expression was weakened until follicles continued to differentiate and mature,β-catenin was again seen in the hair matrix. And hair follicle epithelial-mesenchymal β-catenin expression existed phase differences throughout the development process of hair follicle, such differences occurred in the course of beard hair follicle morphogenesis in yak especially.
