Abstract

Objective:To assess the clinical value of selective transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE) in nasopharyngeal fibroangioma before operation.Methods:13 cases with nasopharyngeal fibroangioma confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Digital subtraction angiography(DSA) and embolization of selective the maxillary and the pharyngeal ascending branches arising from external carotid artery with polyvinyl alcohol particles and gelfoam(GF).Results:13 cases underwent operation after selective embolization of blood supplying arteries and the amount of bleeding in operation was obviously reduced. It was done on 2~5 days after the embolization in our study. Conclusion:TAE is an important value in decreasing haemorrhage during operation for nasopharyngeal fibroangioma.
