Abstract
[Objective]To explore the application value of Epworth sleepiness scale(ESS)in screening obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)patients in mental workers.[Methods]206 metal workers due to snoring were calculated for the ESS scores(EP scores)and body mass indices(BMI),measured for the neck circumferences. All patients were monitored by the whole night polysomnography(PSG),and were divided into non-OSAHS group and OSAHS(light, medium, heavy)group according to the results of PSG(Apnea Hyponea Index(AHI)and lowest saturation of blood oxygen(LSaO2). The differences of basic situations, clinical indicators and EP scores were compared between groups. The correlations were analyzed between AHI and clinical indicators,EP scores, respectively. With more than 5 of AHI for the gold standard of diagnosis OSAHS,we did the ROC curve of the EP scores, and chose the best diagnosis point.[Results]The differences of BMI,neck circumferences,EP scores,AHI and LSaO2 between groups showed statistical significances(P﹤0.01). The correlation coefficients between AHI and BMI,EP scores, neck circumferences and LSaO2 were 0.596,0.660,0.596,and -0.849,respectively,and showed statistically significant(P﹤0.01). The areas under the ROC curve of EP scores were 0.807(P﹤0.01),and the sensitivity was 0.859 and specificity was 0.733,when the EP scores was 7.5.[Conclusion]There is a high application value of Epworth sleepiness scale to screen OSAHS patients in mental workers.
