Abstract
Background:Conventional radiological techniques such as fluoroscopy and plain abdominal film examination have limited value in the diagnosis of mechanical intestinal obstruction. In recent years,multi-slice spiral CT (MSCT) has been increasingly applied in this field.Aims:To investigate the diagnostic value of MSCT in mechanical intestinal obstruction. Methods:MSCT images of 46 cases of mechanical intestinal obstruction confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed.Fifteen patients had MSCT only.Multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) or curved planar reconstruction (CPR) were also performed in 31 cases, and additional shaded surface display (SSD),ray sum and CT virtual colonoscopy (CTVC) were performed in 8 cases. The accuracy rate of MSCT in the diagnosis of mechanical intestinal obstruction was analyzed. Results:The main causes of mechanical intestinal obstruction were tumor and adhesion. The sensitivity of MSCT for diagnosing mechanical intestinal obstruction was 97.8% (45/46) and the accuracy rate of MSCT in locating obstruction site and in etiological diagnosis were both 95.7% (44/46).Conclusions:Axial images combined with post-processing images of MSCT can demonstrate the etiology, location and complication of mechanical intestinal obstruction clearly, and are of great value for clinical diagnosis and treatment.
