Abstract

【Objective】 To observe the effects of peripherally inserted central catheter(PICC) by using modified seldinger technique(MST) and MST under B-ultrasound guidance, respectively.【Methods】 A total of 200 PICC inpatients with poor vascular condition from January to August,2011 were divided into the control group(N=98) and the observational group(n =102) based on admission sequence. Both of the two groups were inserted with Bard Groshong PICC.The patients′ PICC of the control group were inserted by using MST.The patients′ PICC of the observational group were inserted by using MST under Bard SiteRite5 B-ultrasound guidance system. The differences in the one-time successful rate of puncture and the potential complications were compared between the two groups.【Results】 The rate of one-time successful puncture of control group reached 81.63%.After the operation, two cases of limb swelling, six cases of mechanical phlebitis, seven cases of local infection and two cases of Catheter-Associated Venous Thrombosis were found. The rate of one-time successful puncture of observational group reached 94.12%.After the operation, one case of limb swelling, none of the cases was found with mechanical phlebitis, local infection or Catheter-Associated Venous Thrombosis. The differences in the rate of one-time successful puncture, mechanical phlebitis, local infection had statistical significance between two groups after therapy(P 0.05).【Conclusion】 The MST-PICC puncture using SiteRite5 B-ultrasound guidance system can provide us with higher one-time successful rate of puncture, lower rate of complications, which has wider clinical applications.
