Abstract

Objective To study the factors related to hyperuricaemia in type 2 diabetic patients and to investigate the effect of serum uric acid levels on the metabolic syndrome. Methods During March 2007 and March 2008 731 cases were divided into 2 groups according to their uric acid levels, then the relationship between serum uric acid and metabolic parameters and the complications in two groups were observed. Results There was a positive correlation between uric acid levels and triglycerides, body mass index, blood pressure(P0.05).The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was higher in patients with hyperuricemia. Conclusion There were many factors related to serum uric acid levels in type 2 diabetic patients,it suggests that hyperuricaemia is one of the risk factors for metabolic syndrome.
