Abstract
Population distribution and spatial autocorrelation of 108 cites and counties in Shandong province were studied with MapInfo7.0 software and MapBasic language. The results showed that population structure indexes from 1995 to 2006 were increasing, indicating the development situation in 1995-2006;the population density distribution presented significant phenomena of spatial clustering in the study area, which was weakened in 1995-2001 and enhanced in 2001-2004 and weakened again in 2004-2006;local Moran's I was useful for decomposing the pattern of spatial association into four categories, which have obvious regularity in terms of spatial distribution. It formed a southwest-northeast model. There are more spatial positive correlation than negative correlation between all cities and counties.
