ON GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION AND FAUNAL REGIONS OF RODENTS OF FUJIAN

There are 27 species and 2 subspecies of rodents in Fujian Province,belonging to 7 families and 15 genera.Among the 7 families,Muridae is the largest one,containing 16 species and 1 subspecies.The rodent fauna consists of sis components: species of Palaearetic realm,species of Central and Southwest China,species of South China,widely spread species of Oriental realm,introduced species and widely spread species.Oriental species and subspecies occupy about 75.8% of the rodent fauna.Species of Oriental realm,such as Rattus flavipectus flavipectus,Rattus rattoides losea,Rattus niviventer confucianus,Rattus fulvescens huctng and Mus formosanus etc.,are comparatively common and widely distributed in Fujian.Species of Palaearctic realm,such as Apodemus agrarius ningpoensis,Micromys minutus pygmaeus etc.are only distributed in Wuyi find Jiufeng Mountain (north and east Fujian).The southern boundary-line of distribution of Palaearctic species is about 19℃ isotherm (Fig.1).The author tentatively suggests that with respect to its rodent fauna,Fujian may be divided into 3 zoogeographical provinces and 6 zoographical states as follows:Ⅰ Wuyi-Jiufeng Mountain Province (belonging to the Central China Region)FA Wuyi Mt.StateⅠB Jiufeng-Tailau Mt.StateⅡ Daiyua-Bopingling Mountain Province (belonging to the South China Region)ⅡA Daiyun Mt.State IIB Bopingling Mt.StateⅢ Southeast Coastal Hilly and Plain Province (belonging to the South China Region)ⅢA Central Fujian Coastal StateⅢB South Fujian Coastal StateThe southern boundary-line of Central China Eegion is probable the same as the southern boundary-line of Wuyi-Jiufeng Mountain Province,situated at 26°15'-26°50' N.,which is about 19℃ isotherm.
