Abstract

Prodigiosin is a natural pigment containing methoxypyrrole backbone structure with a wide range of biological activity. It was insoluble in water and soluble in ethanol,so the mixture of ethanol and water was used as dyeing solvent. The effects of temperature,pH and bath ratio on the kinetics of dyeing wool and acrylic fabrics were studied and the optimum condition of dyeing process were obtained. The effects of mordant on dyeing wool fabric were further discussed because the fastnesses of wool dyed with prodigiosion pigmont were low.The results showed that the color change of dyeing fabrics mordanted by Al3+ was lower, the rubbing fastness and soap washing fastness were both promoted by the treatment.Prodigiosin showed good anti-bacterial performance according to the test of the anti-bacterial properties of the dyed fibers,.
