Abstract

Income is an integrative index showing economic development and people' income level.At present,the income gap between urban and rural residents has widened increasingly,which not only affects social fairness,but also affects the sustainable development.This paper reveals causes in income gap and sources of the urban and rural residents in Xinjiang though the analysis of data of urban average disposable income and rural average net income from 1996 to 2004.The paper also puts forward some proposals to narrow the income gap between urban and rural residents in Xinjiang.
