Abstract
Objective:To assess the effect of octreotide on postoperative intraperitoneal adhesions in rats.Methods:One hundred and twenty Wistar rats were used.In a same standard,peritoneal adhesions models were made by scraping the cecal serosa with a scalpel blade.The rats were randomly divided into six groups with group one as control group.After the first laparotomy,the rats in group 1、2 and group 3 received postoperative days 0 through 14 normal saline 0.5ml/12h as placebo or octreotide 0.5ml 2.5μg·kg~(-1)·12h~(-1) or hydrocortisone 0.5ml 2mg·kg~(-1)·12h~(-1) subcutanously respectively for two weeks.Rats in group a、b and group c received no interventions in the first two weeks.And on the 14th day after operation,Group a、b and c were performed adhesiolysis of peritoneal adhesions and group a as the control group.After the adhesiolysis of peritoneal adhesions,three groups were given placebo or octreotide or hydrocortisone respectively for 14 days as rats in group 1、2 and 3.After the first laparotomy two weeks or four weeks,The severity of adhesion formation of six groups were graded respectively.Results:Compared with control groups,octreotide reduces the adhesion not only after the first operation but also after the adhesiolysis of peritoneal adhesion.However,hydrocortisone reduces the adhesion only in the first laparotomy.Conclusion:Octreotide can prevent the formation of postoperative peritoneal adhesion.
