Discussion on the Core Meaning of the Adverb "Jiu (就)"

On the basis of predecessors’ research about the core meaning of the adverb jiu,the thesis summarizes the three sentence structures of the adverb jiu.There are: 1.sentence structure (X1)+jiu+X2+(Le),the adverb jiu gets its meaning of linking up the former and the latter quickly,and it’s unstressed.2.sentence structure (X1)+jiu+X2,generally the adverb jiu gets the meaning of restriction,and it’s stressed with the phrase on which it restricts;3.sentence structure X+jiu+X,the adverb jiu have double meanings: the meaning of linking up the former and the latter quickly and the meaning of restriction.Sentence structure X+jiu+X is a contracted sentence,of which the former X is equivalent to a conditional clause,and the adverb jiu links up and emphasizes the recurring of the later X.Sequentially,the thesis summarizes the core meaning of the adverb jiu: the meaning of linking up the former and the latter quickly and the meaning of restriction.
