Abstract

Objective:To explore the diagnostic value of susceptibility weighted imaging(SWI) in cerebral venous malformation(CVM).Methods:Imaging data of 18 patients with CVM were analyzed retrospectively. All of the 18 cases had conventional MRI and SWI examination.6 cases were imaged with Gd-DTPA enhanced MRI,5 cases had CT plain scan. Results:Conventional MRI(14/18 cases) showed many drain veins and some medullary veins.SWI showed all of the veins and typical 'caput medusae sign',the cavernous angiomas with associated venous malformation at the same location simultaneously were also showed in 4 cases. Conclusion:SWI is of high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of CVM with associated cryptic vascular malformation without use of contrast material. It should be the first choice for the diagnosis of CVM.
