Abstract

Objective To study the expression of Mcl-1 in gastric cancer and its clinical significance. Methods Tissue microarrays containing gastric cancer tissue(n=148) and gastric normal tissue(n=20) were prepared and the expression of Mcl-1 was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results Immunohistochemistry showed that gastric cancer tissues and gastric normal tissue both had the expression of Mcl-1 protein, located in the cytoplasm, pale yellow to dark brown color. In gastric cancer tissues and gastric normal tissue Mcl-1 protein expression rates were 83.78%(124/148),60.00%(12/20),respectively.The difference was statistically significant(χ2 = 6.464,P=0.011).In gastric cancer tissues, the expression of Mcl-1 protein with lower degree of tumor differentiation was enhanced, and was associated with lymph node metastasis, but not associated with the patient's age, sex, tumor size, and the tumor infiltration depth(P0.05).Conclusion The Mcl-1 protein expression of the gastric cancer tissues is heightened, which is closely related with the development of gastric cancer, its differentiation degree, lymph node metastasis.
