Abstract

The diminutive is common in Xiang dialects.There are 5 main types:suffix,a similar affix as a prefix,reduplication,tone change,and mixture.Compared with other dialects,the main method of the diminutive in Xiang Dialects is the affix,and the method of tone change is less.The main way is suffix of zai(崽) its other forms: zaizai崽崽,zaiji崽唧,zaizi崽子.And the similar affix as a prefix is very special,for example: zaizai崽崽,erer儿儿,lai and so on.
