Abstract

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of the aminophylline on the expression of Nuclear Factor-kappa B(NF-κB) in the asthmatic model of guinea pigs. METHODSTwenty-four male guinea pigs were divided into three groups randomly:asthmatic guinea-pig group、control group and treatment group. The expression of NF-κB in the tissue of the bronchial wall were measured by immunohistochemistry. RESULTSThe expression of NF-κB in the tissue of the bronchial wall of asthmatic model of guinea pigs is higher than that of control group(P0.01),in the treatment group the percentage of cells nuclear staining (18.4%±2.9%)is lower than that of asthmatic guinea-pig group(29.5%±5.6%, P0.05)and higher than that of control group(8.2%±2.3%, P0.01).CONCLUSIONOur findings suggest that the increased activation of NF-κB is an important mechanism in the pathogenesis of bronchial asthma , the expression of NF-κB is significantly decreased by the treatment of aminophylline, so it is suggested that the inhibition of the expression of NF-κB may be one of the mechanisms in the treatment of asthma by aminophylline .
