Variation and Prediction of Coastal Morphology and Tidal Flat Resources in Zhejiang Province

Abstract

Wide and smooth eastern Zhejiang coasts are foundation of developing marine industry for Zhejiang and China as a whole.As the provincial strategy of marine development upgraded to a national level,it is of practical significance to review variations of coastal morphology and development progress of tidal flat resources,and look into prospects of utilizing these resources.With a macrofractal dimensionof eastern Zhejiang coasts,the paper made a quantitative analysis of microshape indexfor Sanmen Bay,Yueqing Bay,Hangzhou Bay and other main bays,and analyzed the variations of tidal flat boundaries and resources of Zhejiang.It argued that fractal dimension of Zhejiang coasts could be around 1.20~1.25,suggested control values of shape index for main bays are 1.3~2.0 for Hangzhou Bay and 3.5~4.0for Sanmen Bay respectively.It also proposed a sustainable development mode that giving priority to development of coasts of same morphology and scarcity with the same emphasis on maintenance and compensationandpromoting siltation,protecting tidal flats and wetlands,conducting ecological reclamation of shallow flats.
