Abstract
The study in this paper divides Nanjing into 566 TAZs,5 zones and 8 sectors.Using the original land-use data, the Location Entropy Indicator(LEI)of residential, industry and commercial are calculated accordingly. The urban spatial structure is explored in term of the figures and graphs created by GIS and Surfer softwares. The results demonstrate that the different land-use represents different patterns in Nanjing;①the residential land-use displays a concentric zonal pattern;②the industry exhibits a combination of sectoral and zonal patterns;and③the commerce resembles a multiple nuclei hierarchy pattern.Superimposing the three land-use patterns generated a complex conceptual urban spatial mosaic. In the end of the paper it argues that the land market is the primary function in the transitional economy, and government and market can supplement each other in the restructuring the urban spatial structure.
