Abstract
[Objective]To understand status of different kinds of VOCs released in indoor air after indoor decoration. [Methods] The levels of formaldehyde, benzene, toluene and dimethylbenzene indoors at different time after decoration were determined with methods described and the dwellers' adverse reaction through a given questionnaire was surveyed. [Results] Levels of benzene, toluene and dimethylbenzene were highest in the first moon after decoration. The levels of toluene and dimethylbenzene were above prescribed by GB11737 significantly, and benzene was slightly. While the lever of formaldehyde was highest during the first year after decoration, its level seemed high after 1 year, and the concentration of formaldehyde did not change during 10 years. The incidences of adverse reactions on skin and upper respiratory tract irritations were higher with the shorter time after decoration. However, eye irritation was reported in the first year after decoration, even still high after 1 year. [Conclusion] The release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the indoor air from the newly decorated rooms badly influences the indoor air quality.
