Abstract

The traditional view of language sets up a false dichotomy between language formandfunction. For this reason, traditional language acquisition often tips to one side and fails to give an effective guidance to language teaching.Body-embodiment view of language acquisition, however, stresses that language rules are abstracted in the process of language use, languageformandfunctionas a whole during the cognitive experiences of human beings. On the basis of sorting out the usage-based view of language acquisition, this paper gives some insights on foreign language teaching from the following aspects:language motivations, function of constructions, ties between frequency and learning efficiency, and metaphorical thinking.
