Comment and Analysis on Yan Fu's Idea of Saving the Nation by Education

Yan Fu regarded education as the basis of saving the nation. He resolved the problem of the relations between the Chinese learning and Western learning. Analyzing the problem of Chinese education, he introduced the advanced western educational idea and system to China, improving the basic educational method in order to make it true to save the country by education,. There are two limitations in Yan Fu's idea. One is his contradiction of understanding of the western educational culture. The other is his overstress on the function of education and deemphasis on the function of political reform.
