Emergency ESWL in the treatment of ureteral stone with acute colic

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of emergency extracopereal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL)in the treatment of ureteral stone with acute colic.Methods The256cases of ureteral stone with acute colic were treated with ESWL.Results Among all the256cases of acute ureteral colic were relieved in228cases(89.06%)after the first procedure,and23cases(8.99%)after the second procedure.Stone clearances rates were35.16%and49.22%after the first and the second procedure respectively.General stone clearance rate was100%.Conclusion Timely combined treatments with priority to the emergency ESWL should be applied in the patients with ureteral stone accompanied by acute colic in order to relieve the pains,shorten the courses of the disease and protecting the renal functions.The localization procedure of the stones should be integrated with other clinical materials to avoid misdiagnosis.
