Abstract
Objective To investigate the association between cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) gene-765G/C polymorphism and coronary heart disease(CHD) in Chinese population. Methods This was a case-control study, which enrolled 226 CHD patients diagnosed by angiography and 240 healthy controls. The genotype and allele frequencies of COX-2 gene polymorphism were assayed by polymerase chain reaction-restricted fragments length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).Results The distribution of COX-2 gene-765G/C polymorphism was significantly different between CHD group and control group. The frequency of the COX-2 gene-765G allele in CHD patients was significantly higher than that of the control group(85.0% vs 79.4%,P0.05).The relative risk for CHD in G allele carriers was 1.471 times as high as that in C allele carriers(OR=1.471,95%CI:1.044~2.072).Conclusion COX-2 gene promoter region-765G/C polymorphism is associated with CHD and G allele may be a risk factor for CHD.
