Abstract
In the view of the essay,through analyzing Liang Qi-chao's typical works The New Citizen with the theory of western liberalism,Liang put forward moral revolution according to evolutionism,which made doubt of the Chinese traditional ethics,and discussed the importance of individual freedom of spirit,pointing out that forsaking the slave in the soul and cultivating independent personality were the approach to the freedom of spirit.His thoughts had great significance of enlightenment at his time.However,Liang's theory of ethics had some problems.
