On Belongingness of Synecdoche

Abstract

There are different views among the linguists about what figures of speech synecdoche belongs to. Some regard it as a separate figure of speech,and others a form or a type of metonymy. From the angle of cognitive linguisitics,this paper makes a contrastive analysis of metonymy and synecdoche,and states the writer's own opinions about the belongingness of synecdoche and the Chinese translation of both of the figures of speech.
