Application of mitomycin C in trabeculectomy.

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of combining application of Mitomycin C in trabeculectomy.Methods Patients were selected from Jan 2008 to Jan 2010.Patients in MMC group (45 eyes)were performed trabeculectomy combined with mitomycin C,while thirty-three patients(40 eyes) in control group were performed conventional trabeculectomy.Results The success rates of MMC group were 97.8% at the time of discharge from hospital and 93.3% at 3 months,90.5% at 6 months,82.5% at 12 months;while the rates with trabeculectomy were 95.0%、71.8%,69.2% and 67.6% respectively.Conclusion MMC combined with trabeculectomy surgery is effective and safe for treating glaucoma.
