Abstract

The dispersion performances of some dispersants in fine mineral suspension (quartz, hematite, phosphate or their mixture in aqueous solution) were investigated, and the action of those dispersants was discussed. Experimental results showed that coagulation or/and heterocoagulation were almost unavoidable in the suspension of fine mineral particles, dispersion ability of the dispersants studied was in the order of SHPAT-802STPPSS. The action of the dispersants is to increase the repulsion interactions of electrical double layer, hydration shell and steric hindrance, and to decrease the Van der Waals attraction among particles.
