Abstract
English teaching in colleges should facilitate learners to go through the transition from learner dependence to learner autonomy. This paper firstly discusses the necessity of fostering learner autonomy in English learning. Then, based on a survey of learner autonomy among students whom the author is presently teaching, this paper makes a few suggestions on how to promote learner autonomy in English teaching.
