Comparison of three kinds of short-term triple therapies for eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection

Abstract

AIM: To compare the effects and adverse reactions for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection with three short-term triple therapies. METHODS: Two hundred seventy-eight patients with Hp associated with peptic ulcer or chronic erosive antral gastritis were divided into three groups. Group A (n=94; M 71, F 23; age 48 a± s 15 a) was treated with omeprazole 20 mg, po, bid×7 d. Group B(n=82; M 62, F 20; age 47 a±12 a) was treated with lansoprazole 30 mg, po, qd×7 d. Group C(n=102; M 78, F 24; age 45 a±13 a) was treated with pantoprazole 40 mg, po, qd×7 d. Three groups patients received amoxicillin 1 000 mg, po, bid×7 d and metronidazole 400 mg, po, bid×7 d. One month after anti-Hp therapy endoscopy and biopsies for histology, rapid urease test, 14C-urea breath test were repeated. RESULTS: The eradication rates of group A, group B, and group C were 85 %, 88 % and 89.2 %, respectively. Adverse reactions occurred in twenty-six patients of group A (28 %), in twenty patients of group B (24 %), and in thirty-one patients of group C (30.4 %), but well tolerated. The results among group A, group B, and group C show no significant difference (P0.05). CONCLUSION: The three short-term tripe therapies are highly effective, without severe adverse reactions for eradication of Hp infection.
