Abstract
With the improvement of the imperial examination system in the Tang Dynasty,scholars get total relief when they become Jinshi(successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations).Prostitutes under this circumstance become an important way to while away the time.Since the Tang Dynasty,there has been a great change on the relationship between Jinshi and prostitutes: in the Tang Dynasty,they are close partners;in the Song Dynasty,they are bosom friends;in the Yuan Dynasty,they are both frustrated;in the Ming Dynasty,they are like-minded,until in the Qing Dynasty,they transform into whoremasters and prostitutes.These changes in different periods are a mirror of scholars' social status.
