Abstract

This paper discusses the questions about syntax functions of the first personal pronouns of the West Zhou(周) language. Among the West Zhou(周) language, there are five personal pronouns, namely Wo(我), Yu(余[予]), Zhen(朕), Ang() and Wu(吾), of which Yu(余[予]), Zhen(朕) and Wo(我) are familiar, but the others are infrequent. The familiar words Yu(余), Zhen(朕) and Wo(我) can be categorized as two groups. One group is those words which have limits by syntax functions, such as Yu(余[予]) and Zhen(朕). Yu(余) is used as subject, object and concurrent element, but seldom as attribute; Zhen(朕) is usually used as attribute, seldom as subject, but can’t be used as object or concurrent element. The other group is those words which have not the limits by syntax functions, such as Wo(我), which can be used as subject, object, attribute and concurrent element.
