The Study of the First Personal Pronouns of Meng zi

Abstract

In Meng zi,several kinds of the First Personal Pronouns including Yu ,Zhen(朕),Wo(我),Wu(吾) can be found.We discover that Yu and Zhen(朕)have been the ancient words which would not appear frequently.Besides,the frequency of Wo(我)and Wu(吾)are listing on the top and of the highest frequency refer to singular pronoun.Additionally,from the angle of the syntax functions,the functions of Wo(我)are complete while Wu(吾)can be used as the subject and attributive only,which means that the functional division between Wo(我)and Wu(吾)began to be clearer in the age of Meng zi.
