Abstract
Objective To find out the evidence of prevention and treatment of osteoporosis to give advice on how to supplement calcium reasonably, the effects of Biological calcium and calcium carbonate on the bone mineral density(BMD) in disuse osteoporosis rats were investigated. Methods Fifty healthy SD rats (2-month old ) were randomly divided into 5 groups, half male and half female. Group2,3,4 and5 were reproduced with patterns of animal osteoporosis. The diet in group 1 and group 2 was the basic diet, while the three experiment diets were supplemented with calcium. BMD, serum calcium and serum zinc were measured two months later. Results The patterns of animal osteoporosis were proved to be successful. The different forms of calcium in diet had no significant effect on the BMD ,serum calcium and serum zinc. Conclusions The calcium supplement has certain effects on the prevention of osteoporosis. The calcium carbonate is the most economic one and the ideal calcium source for supplementation.
