Radiotherapy for Lung Cancer with Brain Metastasis

Abstract

Objective To contrast radiotherapy with drugtherapy for lung cancer with brain metastasis.Materials and methods 126 patients with brain metastases from lung cancer were treated from January 1980 to December 1996.Drugtherapy was given with CCNU,BCNU,MTX,CTX,DDP.Radiotherapy was given with the dose of 30-40 cGy,whole brain irradiation,then followed with 10-20 cGy booster.Results The 1-,2-year survival rates of the whole group are 16.7%,3.2% respectively.Median survival time is 7.9 months.The 1-year survial rate in the radiotherapy group is 5.4%, Median survival time is 7 months.The 1-,2-year survival rates in the radiotherapy plus chemotherapy group are 25.7%,5.7%,median survival time is 8.6 months.Conclusion The radiotherapy plus chemotherapy is main and efficient treatment for lung cancer brain metastasis,which can lead to better effect.
