Abstract
Objective To analyze the effects of radiotherapy for treating lung cancer patients with brain metastasis. Methods Ninety-six patients of brain metastasis of lung cancer from Feb.1995 to Jun.2007 were studied retrospectively. All of them have received whole brain radiotherapy (WBR) and 42 cases received combined chemotherapy. The median dose of radiotherapy was 40Gy(27~61.2Gy).Results The mean survival times were 8.1 months for all patients from diagnosis brain metastasis of lung cancer. The mean survival times were 9.3 months in the chemoradiotherapy group and 5.9 months in radiotherapy alone group(P=0.041);11.5 months in the ≥50Gy group and 6.9 months in the 50Gy group(P=0.015) and 9.4 months in ≥3.0Gy fraction group and 4.6 months in the 3.0Gy fraction group (P=0.026).Conclusion Whole brain radiotherapy is an effective choice for lung cancer patients with brain metastasis, it can relieve symptom and improve the survival time with enough dose and combination chemotherapy.
