Abstract
Six strains which could evidently degrade naphthalene were isolated from activated sludge of sewage treatment plant. The strains showed the capability of degrading salicylate quickly.Using Warbury respirometer and naphthalene as sole carbon resource and energy, the strains all were proved to biodegrade naphthalene under the concentration tested. Some strains were inhibited by toxicity of naphthalene at the beginning, but others grew well. The optimum condition of growth is pH7.2 and the concentration of naphthalene is 20mg/L.The degradation rate of naphthalene is more than 96.5% in these conditions.
