DISCUSSION OF THE LITERATURE RETENTION SITUATION OF IMPERIAL EDICTS IN TANG DYNASTY

Abstract

The imperial edicts in Tang Dynasty are the appropriative downlink political documents for temporal emperors. They had the practical function of proclaiming throughout the country and was of the supreme political authority,thus they are of unique research value whether in the ideological content or the artistry. However,viewed from the literature retention situation,most of the imperial edicts of Tang Dynasty are not included in New Tang,there are many omissions of the imperial edicts in Tang Dynasty included in Old Tang, Tongdian, Tang Hui Yao,Ce Fu Yuan Gui and so on. When people edited Si Ku Quan Shu during the Qianlong period in Qing Dynasty,more than 20 volumes had been lost in The collection of imperial edicts in Tang Dynasty. Therefore,it is a necessary and fundamental research to sort through and demonstrate the literature retention situation of imperial edicts in Tang Dynasty.
