Abstract
Few ground cover plants are available for Beijing area due to the atrocious weather and drought. In order to meet the demand of greenbelt, 13 wild herbaceous ground cover species which adapted to the situation of Beijing area were selected based on the investigation, introduction, and phonological phase observation. Their ecological functions were conducted to evaluate the ecological benefit of introduced plants, and this provided the foundation to the utilization of them in landscape. The results showed that Iris lacta var. chinensis, I. ruthenica var. nana and Carex heterostachya had higher ecological benefit, and were recommended as good groundcovers for Beijing area.
