Analysis of abnormal autumn flood of upper Yangtze River in October,2008

Abstract
During late October to early November,2008,abnormal flood occurred in the mainstream and tributaries of upper Yangtze River except Jialing River,which was unusual compared with the flood in the corresponding period.We present this abnormal autumn flood in the aspects of development process and characteristics of rainfall and flood situation.The rainfall situation is characterized by lasting rainfall,concentrated rainfall region,strong rainfall intensity and large rainstorm cover area;and the flood is characterized by late occurrence,high flood peak,and large flood volume.We focused on storm causes and climate background of this flood.The analysis indicates that stronger subtropical high intensity of north-western Pacific and northward ridgeline are the obvious climate features of this autumn rainfall.
