Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer in elderly

Abstract

[Objective] To discuss the effect and side effect of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy [3DCRT] for non-small cell lung cancer [NSCLC] in the elderly. [Methods] Thirty-six elderly patients were treated by 3DCRT to the dose 48~60Gy (3~6Gy/f, 5f/w). [Results] Complete response was observed in 11 (30.6%) patients, partial response in 19 (52.8%) patients, with the overall response rate of 83.3%. The overall 1, 2 and 3 year survival rate were 69.4%, 44.4%, and 38.9%. [Conclusions] Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy is safe and effective for elderly NSCLC patients.
