Prevalence of depression and quality of life among female breast cancer survivors in Shanghai

Background and purpose Breast caner becomes the top one cancer among the female in now,which likely induces depression.This study was to determine the prevalence of depression,quality of life and their influential factors among the female breast cancer survivors living in communities in Shanghai. Methods :A total of 1 328 female breast cancer survivors who lived in communities in were selected through cluster sampling based on the system of Shanghai Cancer Patient Database.They were investigated with questionnaires which included the Zung Self-rating Scale to evaluate the prevalence of depression and FACT-G Self-rating Scale to evaluate the quality of life.1 172 questionnaires called back and were eligible.The prevalence rate of depression and scores of the quality of life were calculated.and their influential factors were also determined. Results :The prevalence rate of depression among the female breast cancer survivors in communities was 22.90%(95%CI:20.00%~25.00%).The average score of the quality of life of the 1172 female breast cancer survivors was 107.62(95%CI:106.41~108.83).The survival time,staged at diagnosis,treatment,KPS score,and pain VAS score were the main influential factors of the prevalence of depression and the quality of life among the female breast cancer survivors.The prevalence of depression significantly influenced the quality of life of the breast cancer survivors. Conclusions :Early detection,improvement of the curative effect,and providing community health services might reduce the prevalence of depression and improve the quality of life among the female breast cancer survivors live in communities.
