Comparison of effect of Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine for lumbar anesthesia in cesarean section

Objective To compare the effect of Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine for lumbar anesthesia in cesarean section.Methods 62 cases undergoing elective cesarean section were divided into Ropivacaine group(32 cases) and Bupivacaine group(30 cases).Ropivacaine group received 0.75% Ropivacaine 1.5 mL and Bupivacaine group received 0.75% Bupivacaine 1.5 mL.Sensory block,motor block,the degree of pain by VAS scores and muscle relaxation and adverse reaction were compared between the two groups.Results There was no significant difference in the onset time and upper level of sensory block,degree of muscle relaxation between the two groups(P 0.05).The onset time of motor block was much longer in Ropivacaine group than that in Bupivacaine group,and the duration of sensory and motor block was significantly shorter in Ropivacaine group than that in Bupivacaine group(P 0.05).The adverse reaction was 13.3%,9.4% respectively in the Ropivacaine group and Bupivacaine group,there was no significant difference between the two groups(P 0.05).Conclusion Both Ropivacaine and Bupivacaine are effective and safety for lumbar anesthesia in cesarean section,but Ropivacaine is beneficial to clinical recovery for its shorter duration of sensory and motor block.
