Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence and nature of catheter-related infections in cancer patients with central venous catheter.Methods The relationship between catheter-related infections and types of original tumor,types of intubation veins,catheter indwelling time,catheter types,etiology were retrospectively analyzed based on the data of 1086 cases of catheter cultivation.Results In 1086 patients,59 patients were infected.The isolated microbe strains including 14 strains of Gram-pos-itive bacteria,8 strains of Gram-negative bacteria and 5 of fungi.Pathogens propagated around the catheter in 45(4.14%) patients.On the puncture parts,9(0.83%) patients were infected and 5(0.46%) patients suffered from bacteremia.The infection rate was different among patients with different types of catheters,indwelling time and types of original tumor(P0.01).Conclusion The propagation of external bacteria is the major cause of catheter-related infections.It is suggested to select proper veins and types of catheter,strengthen the management of intubation and catheter maintenance,shorten catheter indwelling time as possible as we can,enhance the patients' nutritional status and immunity in order to reduce catheter-related infection rate.
