Abstract
Since harnessing the Yellow River by the people in 1946, the soil and water conservation of the river has made a great achievement which attracted worldwide attention. By the end of 2005, the accumulated controlled area of soil and water loss is 215 000 km~2 and completed warping dams 122 100 in the Loess Plateau, improving the ecological environment and local agricultural production conditions, reducing sediment washed into the Yellow River and promoting social and economic development of the basin. For 60 years, the soil and water conservation is improved continuously and developed gradually under the conditions of exploration and practice on strategic, management, technical and manpower innovations. It puts forward the key emphasis in work in the near future.
