Abstract

AIM To investigate whether peripheral blood levels of matrix metalloproteases-9(MMP-9) and C-reactive protein(CRP)are affected in patients with acute coronary syndromes(ACS).(METHODS) Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and scatter rate nephelometry, serum MMP-9 and CRP were measured in 39 patients with ACS.RESULTS The serum levels of MMP-9 and CRP in ACS group were significantly higher than those in control groups(P0.01).In ACS group, the serum level of MMP-9 was higher in UA subgroup than that in AMI subgroup(P0.01) and CRP was higher in AMI subgroup than that in UA subgroup(P0.01).But no significant correlation was found between MMP-9 and CRP in ACS group.CONCLUSION The serum levels of MMP-9 and CRP in(patients) with coronary artery disease increase and there is no correlation between MMP-9 and CRP.
