Abstract
Flood disaster is one of the most serious natural disasters in the world, which brings great casualties and economic loss. Assessment of flood disaster is the precondition and foundation to control flood and mitigate hazard scientifically and effectively. The concepts concerning flood risk were explained, and the methods of assessment of flood risk were reviewed from the aspects of meteorology, hydrology and hydraulic power, social economy, remote sensing and GIS and land use, for which the common evaluation factors were listed. Finally the possible directions for future research were pointed out.
