Distribution of Hangzhou temples in Song Dynasty and the reasons

Hangzhou’s Buddhism was so prosperous in Song Dynasty that there were numerous temples.In general,the temples were dense,but due to the influence of historical conditions,natural environment,population distribution,economic situation,traffic conditions,different districts had different characteristics.Because of limited space,there were fewer temples in the city than in the suburbs.In the suburbs,there were more temples near the West Lake and both ends of Fucheng than in Fucheng east suburb.The quantity of temples was least in the west of the West Lake.The temples were denser in the city and suburbs than in the counties of the outer suburbs.The quantity of temples of the counties was roughly the same except Lin An County which has a little more and Chang Hua County which has a bit fewer temples.
