Treatment of thoracic trauma in 450 cases

Objective To evaluate the character of open thoracic trauma and closed thoracic trauma.?Methods The clinical data of 450 cases of thoracic trauma treated in our hospital in 1996 2002 were analyzed retrospectively,to compare the injury and treatment feature between open thoracic trauma and closed thoracic trauma.?Results Four hundred and twenty nine cases were cured,nineteen cases died and two cases of chronic pyothorax.?Conclusion (1)The condition of the acute thoracic injury changes rapidly. It has high rate of shock. Rapid examination of the injury and resolved to make a decision for emergency operation are the key point to raise the cure rate. (2) The closed thoracic trauma has high rate of complications and is difficult to be diagnosed. It is important to treat complications,especially to brain injury and organ injury in abdomen. The main treatment for closed thoracic injury is to treat flail chest, lung contusion,and complications.
